As Fredonia residents (past and current), alumni, staff, faculty, and friends/supporters, you’ve played a foundational role in helping make us what we are today – and we want to THANK YOU by inviting you to join in this special celebration that is our Bicentennial Year – and remind you of all the special programming and amenities available to you within our campus community.

Paint the Town Blue & White

Light Up Fredonia: A Community Tradition Begins!

SUNY Fredonia invites you to show your pride in and celebrate the village community and SUNY Fredonia connection.

Through blue lighting displays and SUNY Fredonia-branded yard signs, "Paint the Town Blue & White" is intended to visually represent our important legacy of partnership and will run from August 24 (or earlier) through October 20.

Below are ways to be part of this new tradition!

Yard Signs

Yard signs are an easy way to honor the campus-community connection and are free for Fredonia-area residents! You can pick up your 16" x 26” weather-resistant sign at any of the 8 Great Wednesdays in the Park between 5:30 and 7:30 pm (July 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 and Aug. 5, 12, and 19); look for the SUNY Fredonia table. If you don’t have a chance to stop by the 8 Great Wednesdays, you can also pick up a sign at either of the following locations:

  • Fenton Hall, 138 (President’s Office)
  • Foundation House, 272 Central Avenue (Office of Alumni Engagement)

Blue Lighting

Let your Fredonia pride shine bright with blue lighting this Fall. Whether your style is string lights, spotlights, or a simple porch light, secure your favorite from the Campus Bookstore or local retailer and help us light up the Village! We encourage blue light displays from Aug. 24th as we welcome our next generation of SUNY Fredonia students to campus through October 20th when our alumni return for Homecoming.

Participate in Bicentennial Events

A wide variety of campus events and Bicentennial programming is planned for the 2026-2027 academic year, and many events are open to our community. From a historical walking tour highlighting our storied 200-year history to our Convocation event and keynote address with Chris Bashinelli, National Geographic Explorer, and much more, we invite you to join us in celebrating this special milestone for Fredonia. Visit our Bicentennial events page to see the full schedule. Additions are being made regularly, so don’t forget to check back periodically to see what new events and programs are taking place.
